Once upon a time, there were dress shoes, and there were sneakers. And that was it. But that’s not how life works. What about everything in between?
Drawing on generations of shoemaking experience, we were able to merge the comfort of athletic shoes with the smart, sophisticated look of dress and casual styles. With 50 years of serving customers in more than 60 countries, we like to think our efforts have paid off. Through it all, we still love what we do. We’re still working to refine and perfect our craft, because we’re committed to building the best possible shoes for our customers.
WHAT WE STAND FOR:
We’re often told to “think on our feet,” but rarely “about them.” At Rockport, we do both. We scrutinize every line and nuance of our shoes, from first sketch to final product. We’re dedicated to more than mere aesthetics, and our commitment goes far beyond our drive to innovate. We spend countless hours poring over every detail, because ultimately, it’s not about us, or the shoes. It’s about you. Over the years, we’ve walked side by side with the people who wear our shoes, getting to know them, their hopes, dreams, and needs, inside and out. No two people, or strides, are alike. No two days are ever the same. There will never be one solution for everyone. Others might balk at this reality, but we’re galvanized by it, driven to create and discover what more we can do, what else we can offer. Because if you can’t say that you’ve done right by yourself and those around you, you haven’t done very much at all. Thoughtfulness will always trump trends, and generosity of spirit will always outweigh the bottom line. Life is an incredible, rich journey filled with adventures and people to share them with.

Going from a father-son startup to a premier global brand has been quite an adventure.
1971 - A FATHER, HIS SON, AND THEIR VAN
Saul and Bruce Katz establish the Rockport company and begin making casual and dress shoes that feel like sneakers.
1983 - WELCOME HOME
Bob Infantino (a former retail shoe buyer who once bought 4,400 pairs of Rockports from founder Bruce Katz during an unexpected visit) begins his employment with Rockport. In just a few years he would become Vice President of Product and Marketing.
1990 - 26.2 MILES LATER
Former Rockport Vice President Tony Post completes the New York City Marathon wearing DresSports. Yes, they’re that comfortable.
1994 - GOING WHERE THE WIND TAKES US
Rockport outfits some of the world’s best sailors with our high-tech, nautically inspired shoes to compete in the 1994 Whitbread Round the World Race, the Volvo Ocean Race, and the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race.
2005- CLEANING UP NICELY
Rockport introduces machine-washable styles for both men and women, making shoe care easier than ever.
2011- MEET COBB HILL
Cobb Hill is launched under lead designer Sally Murphy (who now leads Women’s shoes at Rockport) and it has since become one of the fastest growing footwear brands of all time.
2013 - CHANGING THE GAME (AGAIN)
The introduction of our Total Motion technology into both our men’s and women’s collections proves to be another industry-leading advancement, with increased cushioning, improved flexibility and stability, and an innovative lightweight construction.
2015 - ALWAYS MOVING FORWARD
The Rockport Company and Drydock Footwear come together to form The Rockport Group, a bigger, better company that’s home to an all-star lineup of quality brands including Rockport, Aravon and Dunham, as well as the popular Cobb Hill collection. This marks the beginning of the Rockport we know and love today.
We’re combining cutting-edge technology with classic construction techniques to create shoes that look good and feel great. Take a look at the top-notch tech in a few of our favourite styles.
At Rockport, we continue to innovate. As part of that process, we are actively looking at options to reduce our environmental footprint. In March of 2021, we launched our first Eco Selects collection of sustainably focused styles. This is a collection designed with eco-friendly uppers, made from either partially recycled content or thoughtfully selected natural fibers. The launch is one of two planned Eco Selects releases for 2021 and is part of a broader, on-going effort to procure eco-friendly materials, as part of our design process. Our Rockport team is focused on creating well-made product that lasts and to delivering style choices that fit our customers personal commitment to the environment. As a brand, we are making progress. We are working toward reducing our environmental impact and plan to issue a statement in September 2021 about our current sustainability efforts, future commitments, and environmentally responsible business practices.
